Aspire Performance Training - Case Study
The Perth Mint
Introduction
The Perth Mint engaged Aspire Performance Training to design and execute a bespoke leadership and management course for thirty front-line leaders, resulting in all participants receiving a nationally recognised BSB40120 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.
The course was designed to evaluate staff skillsets and identify key areas of improvement to meet the growing demands of the progressive business and included 12 custom-created face-to-face workshops covering subjects such as leadership, workplace relations, communication, and sustainability.
About The Perth Mint
The Perth Mint is a world-renowned institution located in Perth, Western Australia. It was established in 1899 as a branch of the Royal Mint in London, with the primary purpose of refining gold from Western Australia's goldfields. Today, the Perth Mint is owned by the Government of Western Australia and operates as a precious metals refining, minting, and depository enterprise.
As a leading refiner of precious metals, the Perth Mint plays a crucial role in the global gold industry. It refines and produces gold, silver, and platinum bullion products that meet international standards. The Perth Mint is responsible for producing 10% of the world's gold output and refines gold from some of the largest gold mines in Australia and other countries.
The Perth Mint's bullion products are highly sought after by investors and collectors worldwide. They include gold bars, coins, and other precious metal products that are recognized for their purity, quality, and craftsmanship. The Perth Mint also produces legal tender coins for the Australian government, including the iconic Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin, which has become a favorite of collectors around the world.
The Perth Mint is also a trusted provider of secure storage services for precious metals. It offers a range of depository services that cater to the needs of investors and collectors, including allocated and unallocated storage, safe deposit boxes, and online trading platforms.
Throughout its 120-year history, the Perth Mint has maintained a commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability. It has implemented best practices in environmental management, social responsibility, and ethical sourcing to ensure its operations are conducted in a responsible and sustainable manner.
The Opportunity and Challenge
The Perth Mint saw an opportunity to upskill its staff in leadership and management to meet the growing demands of the business. The challenge was to identify areas of improvement in their staff skillsets and find a way to unleash their potential. Due to the high workload of The Perth Mint, the Aspire team had to design a course that ensured there was no disruption to the busy schedule of staff and as such learning was completed on the job and by gathering evidence, which is then discussed in the attendance of workshops.
Why The Perth Mint Chose Aspire Performance Training
The Perth Mint chose Aspire Performance Training to design and execute their custom-designed Leadership and Management Program because of their reputation as experts in their field of study.
The Aspire team who managed and executed this project included Director Jane Mahon, Trainer and Assessor Jayne Dinwoodie and Learning and Development Coordinator Maddy Veenstra, who are all renowneded for their expertise.
Aspire Performance Training has a strong track record of helping businesses identify and fix gaps in their workforce and business strategy to improve overall well-being, performance, and staff retention.
How Aspire Performance Training Responded
Aspire designed a program that evaluated current staff skill sets and identified key areas of improvement. The program consisted of 12 custom-created face-to-face workshops over a flexible 12-month period, where trainees completed 12 commerce units and written assessments.
The Results
All participants received a nationally recognized BSB40120 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. The graduation ceremony was held on April 17th, and was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, tears, and celebration of the students' hard work and dedication.
The course has already proven beneficial to the Perth Mint, and participants have learned how to become true leaders in the workplace, how to manage difficult conversations, how to communicate at different levels with different people, how to work in a team, how to be innovative even with a small budget, how to be more sustainable, and many more.
Bikramjit Singh, Supervisor Production, By-Products and Stores at the Perth Mint, shared that "Jane and Jayne, you were amazing on this year-long journey. You never lost your temper with us. You always come up with innovative ideas to keep us away from boredom (Like throwing questioning balls at us). It was a nice learning experience with you."
One year has passed with the leadership course. I still remember the first day... we have definitely learned a lot.
We have learned how to become true leaders in the workplace, how to manage difficult conversations,
how to communicate at different levels with different people, how to work in a team,
how to be innovative even with a small budget,
how to be more sustainable and leave something for future generations,
how to put sustainability in day-to-day work and many more.
Our bonding has also been amazing through our work in teams throughout this course.
Friday, I was a little sad that we will never be together again like this until we have a common course like this.
Jane and Jayne, you were amazing on this year-long journey.
You never lost your temper with us. You always come up with innovative ideas to keep us away from boredom (Like throwing questioning balls at us).
We annoyed you a lot with after-hour calls and weekend calls towards the end, especially to Jayne. It was a nice learning experience with you
