This is my journey…. by Heidi
November 2011 – I wasn’t huge by all means but because I’m a tiny 5’1″ , I felt so much bigger. My stamina was appalling and I’d run out of breath very quickly while chasing my kids around. My unhealthy life was totally my fault so I knew that I was the only one who could change it.
My sister Monica, is a Power Lifter and trains here regularly. I gave her a determined phone call & asked her to help me, so we got stuck in & hit the gym together. I started to build muscle, got lighter & I got fitter.
December 2012 – After having dropped 4 kilos & gained a heap of muscle, I then ran into a stagnant patch, my body fat loss had stalled. I quickly realised that because I hadn’t changed my diet at all, all this intense training was no longer doing what I wanted it to do.
Then came the next exciting step! I discovered a friend of mine, an incredible body builder had a great understanding of nutrition. I shyly dropped him a message with my dilema and asked if he could possibly advise me on what to eat. You see, I loved my newly formed muscles & really wanted to keep them, but still desperately wanted to drop body fat. He very kindly not only advised me what to eat but more importantly HOW to eat it! And I don’t mean put it on a fork & in your mouth!
April 2013 – I continued hitting the gym and working with my new nutrition lifestyle plan. The next 8 kilos melted away and I hit my goal weight & clothes size! I love the new me, I feel really comfortable with the way I look, the way I feel, and the fact I can run around and not get puffed like I used to!
May 2013 – I’m a goal setter and quiet achiever so I wanted to set myself a new challenge. I’d always admired the look of lightly muscular, toned/ lean women and started researching more about this way of life. I saw that a lot of the women that competed, in their off seasons looked like the new me which got me thinking…. Can I do this too?
And so began my new journey……..
September 2013 – Very proudly I can say I achieved that new goal and stepped on stage in my very first Bodybuilding Competition as a Figure & Physique Competitor!!
An amazing powerful feeling and something I will never forget – It was the day I conquered the world!! Looking mighty fabulous if I may say so too
DETERMINATION and COMMITMENT is key
