The Department of Education and Training recently commissioned a report into the effectiveness of Indigenous School Based Traineeships which AspirePT’s clients provided input in to.
This report concluded that “the school-based apprenticeship pathway is of unmistakeable benefit to Indigenous students, not just in terms of employability but importantly in building confidence, independence and responsibility.”
Some of the key points identified in the report from an RTO success perspective which AspirePT uses in our traineeship model include:
- Employ trainers with exceptional people skills who take an interest in the student’s life and career, beyond the immediate qualification
- Have an understanding of cultural requirements
- Ensure trainers are highly accessible and able to be contacted a range of ways (e.g. phone, Skype, email, SMS, face to face)
- Invest in regular personal visits to students, particularly students in regional and remote areas
